  MSR145: The universal data logger

The MSR145 was a key component used in an astrophysics experiment which went to the edge of space! Students at the University of Sheffield in England launched a balloon and payload on April 8th 2011 as part of their 4th year Physics masters projects.

The MSR145 was placed inside a payload box and recorded atmospheric pressure, internal temperature and 3-axial acceleration throughout the flight, until the balloon burst at an estimated minimum height of 37km. The payload then safely fell back to Earth using a parachute and was located and recovered using GPS. The progress and results of the project can be followed on their website:
